S1 (NASDAQ: SONE), a leading global provider of financial services and payments software solutions, today announced that Morrisons, the UK's fourth largest retailer, has chosen the S1 Retail Payments solution for all card payment processing originating in its stores and fuel filling stations, which are located at more than 380 sites.

The S1 solution will acquire, process, and consolidate card payment transactions originating from over 12 000 points of sale. The selection of S1 is part of Morrisons' major IT investment programme, which involves upgrading its systems to a modern, open architecture.

When considering options for the new payments solution, Morrisons looked for a system that could process millions of transactions a month, reliably and securely, integrating seamlessly with other best-of-breed components, and complying with the necessary EMV and PCI DSS mandates. After a detailed and extensive evaluation process, Morrisons chose the S1 Retail Payments solution, because it demonstrated that it could meet all these demands.

S1's multi-channel payments architecture will enable Morrisons to migrate existing disparate payments channels - for in-store tills, self-checkout, caf'es and dry cleaning, as well as fuel filling stations and unattended fuel payments - into a single, consolidated environment. An S1 till software component will reside on each Morrison point of sale, and will integrate with PIN entry devices and Retalix StoreLine applications, which were also selected as part of the programme. The solution is currently being rolled out nationally, with the first store already live at Guisborough in Yorkshire.

“When selecting new suppliers for our IT transformation programme, we looked for financially healthy and stable market leaders with a track record of comparable and established installations globally,” said Gary Barr, IT Director, Morrisons. “We thoroughly evaluated S1 alongside other organisations, and found that they not only offered proven software solutions, but also met all our requirements for a long-term relationship.”

Morrisons will also implement S1's central back-office payments component, which provides comprehensive management information and reporting. The system includes improved reconciliation and settlement capabilities and provides back-office staff with a single, real-time, end-to-end view of all transactions.

“We are very proud to have been chosen as the best-of-breed payments software by a market-leading retailer such as Morrisons,” said Francois van Schoor, Divisional President, S1. “We continue to gain ground in the retail market where our Retail Payments solution is increasingly seen as reliable, scalable, and easy to integrate. We look forward to working with Morrisons and their other partners to complete the nationwide roll-out.”
