As mobile users travel locally and internationally, they often need to switch from one mode of Internet access to another. Normally, their e-mail settings need to be re-set each time they change their access mode.
A business executive may be using a leased line at the office, ADSL at home, wireless when they travel and possibly dialup from their hotel room.
"But their laptop is usually set up for different outgoing (SMTP) e-mail servers," says Bill Keenan, head of Fujitsu`s ISP division EJECT. "They could struggle for days trying to reconfigure their laptop via telephonic support from South Africa. This can be a nightmare and often ends up in having to send e-mails from the nearest Internet cafe."
Keenan says SMTP authentication can now be enabled to allow travellers to send e-mails via the same EJECT server from anywhere in the world, using any access mode.
"Customers simply advise us that they require this facility and EJECT will modify their account accordingly.
"Users need only reconfigure their laptop or PC once. When a different access method is used anywhere in the world, the system is already configured," he says.
"It is a great time saver and makes roaming easier," he says. "It also takes away the frustration of configuring your notebook or trying to find support when you may be thousands of kilometres away from your service provider."
