Mimecast takes complexity out of e-mail for accounting giant BDO

Mimecast, the leading supplier of cloud- based email archiving, continuity and security for Microsoft Exchange, has implemented Unified Email Management (UEM) for leading accountancy firm BDO, to alleviate archiving and complexity issues.

“As the role of e-mail has grown within our business, so has the number and importance of the messages. A few years ago it was unfathomable to think that we would be archiving over a terabyte of e-mail data. But this is the reality we are faced with today. It's a lot of data. And it's critical that we archive it in an accessible, manageable, compliant manner,” says Willem du Preez, director at BDO.

BDO's business requirement was to find an e-mail archive solution that did not require any huge commitments in terms of cost and time. As Mimecast UEM is a software as a service offering, it requires no additional investment in hardware or software, and easily integrates with existing IT systems.

“The number of e-mails and their increasing size was putting too much strain on the BDO internal archiving system. The result was that archived e-mails were difficult and time-consuming to locate, and mailbox restoration was a complete nightmare. Essentially, e-mail archiving and its related activities were becoming unmanageable for BDO,” elaborates Grant Hodgkinson, business director at Mimecast.

“At first look, Mimecast met our most important business requirements for archiving, but as we looked more closely at the solution, we realised that it has even more to offer in terms of business continuity, security and simplicity within the e-mail environment,” concludes Du Preez.
