Mimecast praised as Champion of e-mail security by Bloor Research

New Bloor Research report gives Mimecast's e-mail security 'Champion' status.

Mimecast, the leading supplier of cloud-based email archiving, continuity and security for Microsoft Exchange and Office 365, today announced that it has been placed in the Champion segment of a new Bloor Research InComparison paper.

The report examines the e-mail security market, evaluating the strengths and weaknesses of key players in the space. It also features a Bullseye chart that ranks vendors as Champions, Innovators or Challengers, with Mimecast positioned closest to the middle and identified as the vendor most 'fit for purpose'.

The report, entitled “InComparison: Essential e-mail security - business requirements and competitive landscape”, evaluated service providers on their e-mail security services based on criteria such as malware controls, encryption and data leak prevention, continuity, and archiving and e-discovery. Placement on the Bullseye chart takes into account financial stability, brand and market share, current offerings and future direction, market presence, and perceived strengths and weaknesses. The closer to the centre of the diagram a vendor is placed, the more fit-for-purpose its products and solutions are judged to be.

Bloor scored Mimecast highly for the following reasons:

* The capabilities offered by its e-mail management service are considered to be strong and it has a good track record of constant innovation.
* Its Service Level Agreement (SLA) is strong compared to competitors' and guarantees 100% uptime, including archive access, during planned or unplanned outages.
* It continues to add new, innovative features to its service in areas that differentiate it from competitors, including advanced encryption options, enhanced self-service, secure attachment management, and stationery and e-mail marketing tools.
* It offers a service for organisations looking to migrate securely to Microsoft Exchange 2010 or Office 365.
* Its widespread data coverage is a key differentiator and in-geography processing and storage is guaranteed for all customers.
* Widely recognised for the quality and timeliness of its customer support, offered across multiple channels.

Fran Howarth, Senior Analyst at Bloor Research, said: “There are many things to consider when selecting an e-mail security system, and Mimecast is one of the strongest vendors in the market. E-mail is essential for business communication and collaboration, and e-mail messages contain a great deal of confidential information. E-mail security, both in transit and at rest, is therefore vital to prevent data leaks and stop hackers attempting to steal sensitive information. E-mail security should be part of a wider, unified e-mail management system, encompassing not just malware controls, but mailbox management, content filtering, encryption and compliance reporting.”

Garth Wittles, managing director of Mimecast South Africa, commented: “Being recognised by Bloor Research as a Champion in the e-mail security space is an honour for Mimecast. Our security services form part of a larger, tightly integrated unified e-mail management offering, which also incorporates archiving and continuity. We take pride in achieving rankings, certifications and awards for our products, services and innovation at Mimecast, and this Bloor report highlights our continued dedication to ensuring business e-mail in the cloud is as secure as possible.”

The other vendors included in the report are Microsoft, Cisco, Symantec, McAfee, Websense, Google and Proofpoint. Click here to download a full copy of the paper.
