Mimecast, the leading supplier of cloud-based e-mail archiving, security and continuity for Microsoft Exchange and Office 365, today announced it has been positioned by Gartner in the Visionaries Quadrant of the 2012 "Magic Quadrant for Secure Email Gateway."[1] The report focuses on the topics of endpoint security, security privacy and risk, and infrastructure protection to help determine who the leading providers are in the space, their offerings and key differentiators.

In this report, Gartner analysts note: "The secure e-mail gateway (SEG) market is a mature market and buyers should focus on strategic vendors, data loss prevention capability and encryption." As part of the Visionaries Quadrant, Mimecast has a clear understanding of where the market is going and a vision for changing market rules.

According to the report: "The secure e-mail gateway (SEG) market is defined by solutions that provide enterprise message transfer agent (MTA) capabilities, offer protection against inbound and outbound e-mail threats (such as spam, phishing attacks and malware), and satisfy outbound corporate and regulatory policy requirements. SEG solutions can be offered in the form of software or appliances that go on customer premises, hosted solutions that reside in solution providers' data centres, multi-tenancy software as a service (SaaS) that exists in multiple data centres around the globe, or a combination of these - often referred to as a hybrid deployment. Unified threat management (UTM) devices that combine firewalls with some spam filtering are not included in this market."

"Being placed in the Visionaries Quadrant by Gartner is validation of Mimecast's determination to innovate in a space that has become highly commoditised," said Peter Bauer, CEO of Mimecast. "We have a comprehensive, multi-year roadmap for this technology and we believe that e-mail gateways should be about a whole lot more than anti-spam and anti-virus. E-mail is showing signs of evolution and adaptation in the face of new collaborative preferences, and e-mail gateways should be a key part of this evolution."

Mimecast Email Security is designed to combine increased flexibility with industry-leading security, by giving control to the users and allowing them to manage their own security settings on a per-message basis, in combination with centralised controls that allow the IT department to activate features and permissions for specific individuals or groups. The latest version of Mimecast Email Security will be available in spring 2012.
