Before finalising my review on Magix`s MP3 making software, I went against my methodology and decided to view other reviews. I found that a number of other Web sites found the program to be quite useful, but extremely hard to learn. I agree completely.
Like other users, I found the program to be tremendously non-intuitive. Although it was easy to set up, subsequent use caused my computer (Windows XP) to crash several times, probably because I forced the program to perform some tasks that it didn`t want to.
After a few days of irregular use, I started getting more comfortable with the program and found it quite useful.
Here are some of the pros and cons of the product to consider before purchasing:
The program supports WMA, WAV and a couple different types of MP3 files, and easily converts files back and forth. The program, however, doesn`t seem to want to burn, rip, or edit songs in WMA format. Therefore, all of the Windows Media ripping already done will have to be converted to MP3.
Cataloguing of music, an important aspect of any media player, is time consuming and not completed as quickly as with WMP. In any case, it is possible, and that`s a plus.
For those with lots of music on their hard drives in a "My Music" folder, the program quickly finds and utilises the tracks. Copying, pasting and generally organising the music can be done from within the program and corresponding changes will be made in real time.
The music editor portion of the program has been immensely helpful for deleting sections of silence that might buffer the last numbered track of a CD and a hidden track. There`s lots of good music in those hidden tracks, which can now be added to mixed CDs.
Overall, the program works smoothly once it has been figured out. I have managed to burn a reasonable length, CDA format CD with no problem, although I`ve not yet attempted an MP3 disc car stereo.
Personally, despite this programme being quite cumbersome in the initial stages of use, I would say that it is a great buy and promises and provides many enjoyable hours of use.
If one has the time to try the software, it probably won`t disappoint.
