The South African Linux Professional Association (LPA) has become the second member of Linux International`s (LI) Country Affiliate programme.

At the Linux Africa conference in Kyalami this morning, Jon "Maddog" Hall, executive director of Linux International, announced that the local LPA has been accepted into LI`s ranks.

"Our new charter ... makes it easier for companies outside of the US to join Linux International. Country affiliates are like-minded groups who have the same goal as Linux International. We want local companies involved in Linux to support the country affiliate."

"This is not only an opportunity for the LPA, but also an opportunity for SA," commented Paul Kotschy, chairman of the LPA.

Kotschy added that the LPA is investigating the possibility of promoting Linux penetration into Africa. It has not yet been decided whether it will do this under the LPA banner, or whether it will form a new organisation for this purpose.
