Lotus announces WebSphere Translation Server

IBM company, Lotus Development SA, has announced the IBM WebSphere Translation Server, an e-business solution that enables organisations to use machine translation to enhance the multilingual aspects of their business.

Three elements combine to form the WebSphere Translation Server, namely the translation of Web pages, the translation of Lotus Notes mail and databases and the translation of Lotus Sametime messaging.

"The translation of Web pages is offered by the owner of the Web page and performed on demand at between 200 and 500 words per second," says Lesego Tlhabanelo, marketing manager at Lotus Development SA. "The Translation Server is aimed at users that have constantly changing content, or content that is frequently updated."

The WebSphere Translation Server provides a gist of the Web page content, as opposed to a word-for-word account, and a company or domain-specific vocabulary can be added to enhance accuracy.

"Translation can be performed in eight languages, including English to and from French, German, Italian and Spanish, as well as English to Japanese, Traditional Chinese, Simplified Chinese, and Korean," concludes Tlhabanelo.
