ACCPAC financial software reseller and solutions provider Lorge has completed a R400 000 accounting software installation and services contract for Randgold Resources` Loulo gold mine in Mali and the mining company`s operational head office located in the capital, Bamako.
Lorge account manager Andre de Jager says the ACCPAC Advantage Series 5.2 Windows-based software was installed on a Pervasive database. The implementation of the software was split, with a stock control system to monitor stock holdings and report on internal stock issues to various cost centres implemented at the mine itself, and a full administrative ACCPAC system operating in French at the Randgold Mali headquarters in Bamako.
"Mali is a French-speaking state and one of the developments we were required to implement was the operation and display of the General Ledger account descriptions in both French and English. Users therefore have a choice - the manager may elect to use English while the accounts clerk works in French," says De Jager. Training was conducted in French and English.
ACCPAC is available in five major languages apart from English and the dual display implementation using French was a first for Lorge. De Jager adds that another requirement was the setting up of the chart of accounts to meet Mali government legislation. "Once this was achieved, we were then able to configure the ACCPAC system to also cater for the specific business needs of Randgold."
Data within the ACCPAC system installed at Bamako is periodically transferred as a zipped e-mail for incorporation into the central Randgold Resources accounting system.
