Jigsaw Interactive, a Durban-based software development company, yesterday won the best deployment of Eclipse technology in an enterprise award at the Eclipse Community Awards in Santa Clara, US.
The Eclipse Web site states Jigsaw was competing against IBM and the City of Stuttgart in the "best deployment" category, winning one of five awards presented at the beginning of the four-day EclipseCon annual convention.
"We won the award for an Eclipse-based business management and budgeting solution for the Compass Group (one of SA`s largest food services providers with 700 business units and 7 000 employees), which was previously using simple XML spreadsheets," says Jigsaw director Andrew Junkuhn.
"It`s a validation of the hard work both Compass Group and Jigsaw Interactive have put into creating a cost-effective business application," he adds.
The eight-year-old Jigsaw Interactive comprises six members, and specialises in custom application development.
Eclipse, an open source software framework used to develop integrated development environments, was developed by IBM and is managed by the Eclipse Foundation, an independent non-profit consortium of software industry vendors.
