Linux will dominate Computer Faire 2000, says LPA

From a small, yet successful, introduction at last year`s Computer Faire in Johannesburg, it has taken just one year for the Linux Professionals Association (LPA) to show that Linux is a force to be reckoned with.

During this year`s Computer Faire, the LPA plans to show the extent of Linux`s market share growth worldwide by occupying a 100 square meter stand in Hall 2, the Corporate Solutions Hall.

Last year`s small stand attracted about 15 000 visitors, approximately one-third of the show`s visitors - an impressive start by any means. The LPA is keeping this year`s plans under wraps until closer to the show, although Craig Rodney, marketing manager of Obsidian Systems, an LPA member company, was willing to divulge a few details about the game plan.

"As we did last year, we`ve kept the stand simple and without frills, going for a practical, professional approach. In the Linux tradition of offering working solutions, we would rather develop software that gets people talking," he says.

"The stand is impressive in that it has been designed to enable people to find or learn whatever they want to about Linux. It also show-cases the vibrancy and diversity of support for the Linux operating system."

Computer Faire 2000 will be held at Gallagher Estate from 23 to 27 May.
