The slick, black LG P7200 is light and compact, making this handset easy to tuck away in a handbag or pocket.
With the design reminiscent of the Motorola Razr model, the P7200 features a 65 000 colour TFT LCD front display with three music keys allowing easy access to the MP3 player function.
The 262 000 colour TFT LCD internal display may be flipped or rotated for better viewing when the camera function is engaged. The brightness of the main display cannot be adjusted, and although it is adequate most of the time, it becomes difficult to view in bright daylight.
The back of the handset features the real draw card of this model - a 2MP auto-focus camera. When the main display is swivelled and flipped down, the P7200 convincingly transforms into a compact digital camera, which can be operated via externally located buttons.
The camera also offers manual functionalities, allowing white balance, focus and ISO to be adjusted. A bright light situated close to the lens functions as a flash, with manual exposure compensation giving the user great flexibility.
However, the attractive photographic features of the camera-function are compromised by sluggish processing and poor performance in dim conditions. While the phone will allow high-quality shots of sunny holiday landscapes to be captured, the shutter lag makes it frustrating to try and take fun pictures at social occasions.
A microSD on the side of the handset is capable of taking up to 512MB of memory in addition to the built-in 64MB.
By flipping open the clamshell design, a metallic-looking keypad which, again, resembles the Motorola Razr is revealed. The lack of a tactile division between the flat buttons will add to durability, but makes it difficult to type messages speedily.
Despite the disappointing camera function, the audio features of the LG P7200 offer an impressive multimedia element to this handset. It supports MP3, AAC/AAC+, Real and WMA files, and the external music controls on the front display make it easy to skip between tracks.
It is difficult to decide who LG had in mind as the ideal user for this phone. The sleek black design and Bluetooth feature will appeal to business professionals, with the imaging and audio features likely to grab the interest of a younger crowd who will only be frustrated by difficult text messaging and annoying shutter lag.
