LG's new smartphone, the V40 ThinQ, will be available in South Africa from 8 February for R12 499.
The standout feature of this new flagship device is that it has a total of five cameras: two in the front and three at the back. The triple camera rear set-up features a 16MP 107-degree super-wide lens, 12MP standard lens and 12MP telephoto lens. The selfie cameras have an 8MP standard lens and a 5MP wide lens.
The company says the three lenses on the back of the LG V40 ThinQ allow users to frame different shots without changing position relative to the subject. The two cameras at the front of the device allow the smartphone to blur the background and create a bokeh effect in selfie pictures.
Earlier this year, it was predicted that multiple cameras would adorn the backs of premium smartphones in 2019. Last year, Huawei's P20 Pro featured three rear cameras and the P30 this year is expected to have four.
LG was one of the first smartphone manufacturers to introduce a dual-camera set-up in 2016 with the LG G5, and since then others have followed suit, including Huawei, Apple and Samsung.
The camera set-up in the new V40 has an increased main rear camera pixel size, from 1?m to 1.4?m compared to last year's LG V30 model, and a larger image sensor, which LG says will shoot sharper and brighter images than its predecessor.
Other features of the 6.4-inch LG V40 ThinQ include powerful memory, with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage, as well as a microSD slot that could add up to 2TB of extra storage, high fidelity audio, and runs on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 chipset.
LG also unveiled the LG Watch W7 smartwatch, which will be available in SA on 8 February and sell for R3 699.
It was developed in partnership with Soprod SA of Switzerland, and LG says the Watch W7 combines mechanical movement with digital functionalities. It was designed for people who want the look of an analogue watch, but the functionalities of a smartwatch.
If all smart features are disabled, the watch will last for up to three months on a single charge, but enabling functionalities such as altimeter, barometer, stopwatch, timer and compass directions will wear the battery down in two to three days.
