Lazarus Zim resigns from Telkom

Lazarus Zim has quit his position as a Telkom non-executive director, due to his involvement with the Afripalm and Mvela Resources empowerment transaction, Telkom said yesterday.

The resignation is the first at a director level since the sudden departure of Telkom CEO Papi Molotsane last week. It is the fourth high-profile resignation since chief marketing and sales officer Wally Beelders and chief technical officer Thumi Msimango left in early March.

Zim took up a non-executive position with Telkom in October 2005. ITWeb was unable to establish if he served on any of the group's committees, such as auditing or remuneration.

He was Anglo American CEO until April 2006, served as MD of MTN International and is chairman of Kumba Iron Ore. Zim serves on several other resource company boards.
