Lady Gaga, Polaroid unveil mobile printer

She may have a strange sense in fashion, but as Polaroid's creative director, Lady Gaga must have picked up a thing or two about product development, with the latest addition to the company's range of portable printers appearing as the festival season approaches, reports Register Hardware.

The Polaroid GL10 Instant Mobile Printer, from House of Gaga's Grey Label, allows users to run off snaps from their smartphones and digital cameras over Bluetooth, as well as those stored on a PC or Mac through USB.

As with the company's previous effort, the Polaroid PoGo printer, the device requires no ink, turning instead to Zink (Zero Ink) thermal technology, a process of using heat to activate layers of dye stored within the paper.

ZDnet reports that Bloomingdale's flagship store on Manhattan's Upper East Side is now selling Gaga's instant mobile photo printer, which costs $169.99, writes KGO NewsTalk.

The Bluetooth-enabled printer instantly prints pictures from cellphones or other Bluetooth gadgets, and weighs just 15 ounces.

The printer is expected to roll out nationwide in mid-June.

While aesthetically appealing, and technically interesting, in that the small device will print wirelessly from cellphones, cameras, or anything with Bluetooth connectivity, it isn't the most thrilling release, according to Media Brisro.com.

While we're sure they'll sell, both to the gadget-inclined and the Gaga-enthused, we'd much rather have seen a quicker release of the GL20, a pair of glasses with a camera built in that allowed users to immediately display photos onto the lenses themselves.
