KnowBe4's Perry Carpenter to give keynote speech at ITWeb Security Summit, in Johannesburg

Carpenter to conduct book tour this year in Johannesburg, Washington DC, San Diego, Las Vegas, London and other potential locations.

KnowBe4, the provider of the world's largest security awareness training and simulated phishing platform, today announced its chief evangelist and strategy officer, Perry Carpenter, will be speaking at the ITWeb Security Summit, in Johannesburg, on 29 May, at 11:10am.

The venue is the Sandton Convention Centre, where Carpenter will speak on the topic: "Levers of Human Deception: The Science and Methodology Behind Social Engineering."

Carpenter's address will include fun and engaging examples of mental manipulation in everyday life, from the tactics used by oily car dealers to sophisticated social engineering and online scams. Additionally, he will look at how to use the very same levers ethically when educating end-users.

"I'm really looking forward to sharing the insights I've gained over the years related to how bad actors use our human nature against us," said Carpenter. "No matter how much security technology we purchase, we still face a fundamental security problem: people. Understanding how human behaviour works can help us to better adapt our security awareness programmes to drive action and shape security culture instead of simply throwing information at people and hoping for the best."

ITWeb Security Summit 2019

Now in its 14th year, ITWeb Security Summit brings together leading international and local experts, analysts and end-users to unpack the latest threats facing African CISOs, CIOs, security specialists and risk officers. With a long career as a security professional and researcher, he has broad experience in North America and Europe, providing security consulting and advisory services for many of the best-known global brands. He holds a master's of science qualification in information assurance from Norwich University in Vermont and is a certified CISO.

Carpenter's new book: "Transformational Security Awareness: What Neuroscientists, Storytellers and Marketers Can Teach Us About Driving Secure Behaviors" is now available on Kindle and in paperback through Amazon.
