JMR appointed GT Software`s partner for Southern Africa

By JMR Software
Johannesburg, 04 Jun 2002

Web imperatives and with them the drive to free data from the confines of the mainframe have swept in a new player to SA`s technology industry.

This week, Atlanta-based GT Software sealed its local intentions with an exclusive partnership agreement with consulting and application development specialist JMR.

The agreement makes available GT Software`s arsenal of legacy extension and Web-enablement tools to SA`s top 200 companies, which have large-scale investments in mainframe applications and the ancillary challenge of making these available on the Web.

"JMR Consulting was a natural choice for us. The company has a track record in the sale and support of mainframe software projects, as well as a demonstrable technical ability to bridge mainframe and Internet applications," said Butch Thompson, Marketing Manager for GT Software.

"Like, GT Software, JMR has extensive relationships with large corporate clients and is thus familiar with their particular challenges, of how to evolve their existing systems to address the Internet," he added.

According to Thompson, Web-enablement and integration of existing legacy systems is becoming critical for companies to remain competitive and participate fully in the e-commerce revolution.

"Legacy systems built over the last few years have proven to be scalable, highly available and secure, but lack the superior presentation capabilities and universal access associated with web technologies," he said.

"GT Software provides a solution set that allows users to provide current applications and data rapidly to new users on the Web or to re-engineer applications to take full advantage of its benefits," he added.

These are balanced to keep in mind both the need for cost controls and ROI, and the need to evolve the organisation`s e-business strategy.

Commenting on his company`s appointment as GT Software`s local partner JMR founder Mike Richards said: "GT Software`s product set underpins our already extensive capabilities in mainframe systems and applications, and accelerates our ability to assist clients to bring their legacy investments to the Web."
