It`s sheer chemistry for HB Fuller with DataStage

Johannesburg, 07 Jun 2002

Chemical giant HB Fuller has become the latest company to implement Ascential Software`s DataStage XE enterprise data integration solution. HB Fuller, a manufacturer of specialty chemicals with $1,27 billion in sales last year, is using DataStage XE to populate its reporting systems with production and manufacturing data. The solution integrates 100 000 records of chemical formulas and environmental regulation data each day, enabling the company to reduce costs and improve efficiency in the production of its adhesives.

"To optimise the efficiency of our manufacturing processes and purchasing strategies, we need enterprise reporting systems with accurate and complete information regarding the chemical formulas and environmental considerations that affect our business," says Jeff Vold, database administrator, HB Fuller. "Using DataStage XE, we can deliver key operational data to manufacturing and purchasing staff quickly and effectively so they can make cost-effective purchasing decisions."

HB Fuller uses DataStage XE to integrate manufacturing and cost data into its Technical Knowledge System (TKS) application that distributes expense information to executives for new product planning. Plant managers at the company`s 16 North American manufacturing sites use information from an Ascential-driven warehouse of operational data to identify increasingly efficient product manufacturing and shipping options to ensure each plant`s contribution to HB Fuller`s overall revenues and profitability.

HB Fuller also uses DataStage XE to ensure the quality of its reports and business decisions. "As we increasingly rely on TKS and operational planning systems to make manufacturing, shipping and marketing decisions, the importance of ensuring the quality of our enterprise information grows," notes Vold. "With Ascential`s solution, we will be including data quality protection as a regular automatic part of our data management process."
