IsoPos point of sale software sets up streamlined systems for Chemosol

A state-of-the art point of sale software system has been implemented by the local POS software development house, isoPOS, for Chemosol, the Johannesburg supplier of screen and pad-printing materials, equipment, fabric paint, textile ink, art materials and craft products.

Chemosol, which stocks more than 4 000 different items ranging from tiny art paint brushes to highly specialised screen and pad printing machinery, paints and inks, recently upgraded its accounting software from a DOS-based ACCPAC system to Windows-based ACCPAC.

With the speed, accuracy, reliability and functionality derived from converting to Windows, a dedicated, highly flexible point of sale software was required to replace the original Counter sales system paired to ACCPAC DOS, an arrangement in which not all of the ACCPAC modules were used.

"We need a full suite of programs that consolidate and streamline all of the time-consuming functions related to sales orders, invoicing and stock," said Chemosol`s financial manager, Urnest Notlowitz. "At this time, the processing of all sales and related financial returns are conducted daily after hours with minimum input from us."

He added that Chemosol receives calls from all over SA from people wanting to start fabric printing and related businesses. "We used to make out invoices and send the equipment only after payment had been made. The isoPOS software overcomes this problem by producing quotations which are automatically converted to invoices as soon as the customer pays. We now don`t have to go through the rigmarole of cancelling invoices."

The strong accounting background of key members of the isoPOS team was immensely helpful in the transition to the new accounting and sales systems.

"Many of our sales are on consignment. The isoPOS system allows stock to be dispatched without creating an invoice, rather allowing the stock to be moved from the warehouse to the reseller without it being taken off the central stockholding. As the resellers sell the stock it is reported to us, we count the stock they have remaining and we invoice them for what has been sold. The sold stock is automatically taken off the central stockholding and the reseller`s stock is replenished accordingly."

The reporting functions of the isoPOS software are comprehensive, providing excellent summaries of business-critical information. The fact that functionality can be added to isoPOS to meet individual company-specific needs is another big plus.

"The isoPOS team was very open to adapting the software program to accommodate special requests from us," said Notlowitz. "The fact that they were able to accommodate our entrenched ways of doing things makes the system very user-friendly. We think it is a good thing to be associated with a system that is being extended and improved upon constantly."

Karl Wagner, managing director of isoPOS, said the software allows ACCPAC DOS Counter sales users to upgrade to ACCPAC for Windows. "The isoPOS solution for Chemosol was also designed to allow customisation of stock, price lists, consignment selling and other methods of trading traditionally employed by Chemosol.

"This made the conversion process to new software in a completely new operating environment less daunting for Chemosol as well as being easier and quicker to implement."
