ISO certification and GDPR compliance achieved for IoT.nxt

As its global expansion gains pace, Internet of things (IOT) technology provider IoT.nxt has received triple ISO certification and finalised compliance with EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) requirements this month.

"International expansion is a key strategic focus of IoT.nxt. ISO certification and GDPR compliance are important elements when we engage with international customers as it indicates our standards of technical skill and operational capability," says Francois Volschenk, Chief Digital Innovator, IoT.nxt.

The company is now ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 certified to improve operational excellence for its edge technology and tech-agnostic platform, which assists with solving the integration limitation challenges of legacy systems.

The International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO), founded in 1947, is an independent, non-governmental international organisation based in Switzerland, with a membership of 165 national standards bodies. Through its members, it brings together experts to share knowledge and develop voluntary, consensus-based, market-relevant international standards that support innovation and provide solutions to global challenges.

"To comply with the requirements of GDPR, IoT.nxt performed an audit on the IoT.nxt platform to identify where personal data is used and stored. Internal policies were updated to ensure the way personal data is processed within the organisation adheres to very high standards. Privacy by design is one of the fundamental concepts applied to the IoT.nxt platform and range of products. The use of personal data is meticulously scrutinised during the development and testing phases to ensure that personal data enjoys sufficient protection," Volschenk says.

The IoT.nxt servers in Germany and the Netherlands house personal data, where technical controls are in place to protect that data, which will only be transferred across borders, with consent, to fulfil service obligations.

"The ISO certifications are a visible sign of IoT.nxt's credibility and commitment to quality that builds further opportunities for global expansion through ISO's international recognition," Volschenk says.

IoT.nxt's IoT platform is a digital transformation enabler making the Internet of Things a reality. IoT.nxt unlocks exponential business value by harnessing the power of system and device interoperability. Their unique technology stack bridges the gap between all protocols in the industrial ecosystem, creating a single integration/translation point. Its patented Raptor gateway allows organisations to retrofit all existing legacy systems with no rip and replace. A powerful data abstraction model further translates anything and everything from the edge, supporting a true subscription-based big data model. IoT.nxt has offices in South Africa, The Netherlands and USA. South African telecoms company Vodacom, a subsidiary of Vodafone, acquired a majority stake in IoT.nxt in 2019 which is driving the company's global roll-out of IoT solutions.
