Islamic finance e-learning debuts

The Ethica Institute and La Trobe University in Australia have unveiled the country's first Islamic finance e-learning programme, writes Haiti News.

Ethica, which is regarded as a leader in Islamic finance training and certification, started the new Islamic finance for-credit course at La Trobe, one of Australia's leading universities.

This will be the first time that a 100% online course in Islamic finance is offered as part of an on-campus course.

USAID intros family planning e-learning

Director Health, US Agency for International Development (USAID), Janet Paz-Castillo has unveiled an e-learning training package about family planning and spacing of births and pregnancies in families, reports Associated Press of Pakistan.

According to the US embassy, the training package consists of three CDs, which contain information on the concept of healthy timing and spacing of pregnancies; videos on effective counselling skills and prevention of infection.

This programme will also provide faculty members with specialised information to help strengthen their teaching skills.

Companies resort to e-learning

It should surprise no one that more than one-third of all job training in 2009 was done electronically, according to training and development experts, says HRE Online.

In a shaky economy in which many companies have cut their training budgets, technology-based training has been a cost-effective alternative to sending employees outside the office for training.

According to the 2010State of the Industry Report released by the Alexandria American Society for Training and Development, 37% of training hours involved electronic technology in 2009; 28% of training was done online, up from 23% in 2008.
