Interpak Books has upgraded its printing capabilities by investing in an Oc'e VarioStream 7650 Web-fed printing system.
The 600-page-per-minute Oc'e digital press will allow Interpak Books to meet increasing demand for short-run, section-sewn books, as well as an increase in loose-leaf work. Interpak Books, which is Nampak`s specialist book printing operation, prints a wide range of publications, including educational, legal and other hardcover books, as well as diaries and loose-leaf work.
According to Terry Upton, the print manager of Interpak Books, growing demand from existing and new clients resulted in the company re-evaluating its printing technology and acquiring the Oc'e VarioStream 7650 to keep pace with customer needs.
An established Oc'e customer, Interpak Books was well aware of the benefits Oc'e technology brought to its business and set about establishing which Oc'e technology would best meet its needs.
Interpak Books selected the Oc'e VarioStream 7650 to meet its requirements for digital print on demand, speed, quality and media choice flexibility. The Oc'e VarioStream 7650 is a modern, flexible continuous-feed digital press that measures up to every application challenge.
Ideal for printing on non-standard media, the VarioStream 7650 can print on a variety of substrates including lightweight, heavy-grade stock and uncoated media. It also features a Universal Printer Pre- and Post-processing Interface. This is an interface standard that enables communication between all the modules in a digital printing line, facilitating in-line production of books, manuals and reports.
"The Oc'e VarioStream 7650 resulted in an immediate improvement in productivity and job throughput with its continuous-feed and enhanced print quality technology," comments Upton. "The Oc'e printer is a flexible system that can grow and evolve with our business."
Oc'e South Africa`s Durban branch manager, Lawrence Bell, adds: "Oc'e`s new EPQ (Enhanced Print Quality) toner transfer technique sets new benchmarks for print quality, delivering consistently excellent output of every element - especially ultra-thin lines, patterns and halftones images. The Oc'e VarioStream 7650 delivers unrivalled print quality, even at the super-fast speeds that are routine to any continuous-feed print operation."
He says: "Interpak Books has shown great foresight in introducing a print-on-demand solution for small orders and short-run book applications. Interpak can now offer a specialised service to the marketplace at extremely attractive pricing structures compared to traditional production methods."
Upton concurs: "Interpak is now able to merge conventional print with digital and is able to better meet its customers` requirements and will continue to focus on servicing these requirements. Oc'e`s professionalism and highly innovative Web-based systems have given us a decided advantage over traditional litho-based book production houses."
Oc'e has provided Interpak Books` staff with in-depth training and support, which has already positively impacted productivity at Interpak Books.
