Simmer & Jack (Simmers) appointed Internet Direct to project manage the IT needs and integration of the North West Mine into its existing network earlier this year, when an interim agreement with the provisional liquidators of the North West Mine of DRD Gold was granted.
Internet Direct has been working closely with Simmers, liquidators and North West Mine Management in reviewing all existing IT equipment and systems in an attempt to identify what could be salvaged and what would need replacement.
Colin Wagner of Internet Direct said: "With the High Court`s approval of Simmers` acquisition of the mine on 21 October 2005, this has cleared the way for the project to really gain momentum. We have already received assistance from Telkom in obtaining additional data lines for Internet access and will begin working on linking the sites shortly. IT security for each site is a priority and the appropriate steps will be taken to ensure adequate firewalls are in place. Replacement of equipment and systems has already begun and will take several weeks to complete."
Once the North West IT operations are in place, then a corporate financial system will be identified by Simmers under the guidance of Internet Direct. A corporate-wide intranet is being built by Internet Direct, consolidating information for ease of use specifically for management.
Internet Direct had successfully completed the consolidation of the IT systems between the Johannesburg and Pilgrims Rest operations in March 2005.
