Intel spills chip details
Intel will debut a new Core micro-architecture in Q1 2011, reports Hexus.
Formerly known as Sandy Bridge, the chip giant provided further details on the chip during the annual Intel Developer Forum technology show held in San Francisco.
The second-generation Core design brings together the CPU, GPU and memory controller on one piece of silicon, and Intel is using this integration to boost the performance of its new chips.
New brain scan method for children
British scientists have developed a new method to scan the brain waves of children, potentially improving the treatment of epilepsy and other diseases, states the Financial Times.
Existing methods of scanning brain activity do not work in young children because they cannot remain still. The new approach, described this week by researchers at Aston University, uses magnetic markers attached to the child's head. This allows children to move around within the scanner, rather than having to stay absolutely still.
Computer software then adjusts for the child's movements, allowing an accurate map of brain activity to be drawn. Research leader Paul Furlong said: “The new technology provides a window on the developing brain, hopefully allowing us to improve diagnosis and treatment of childhood brain disease”.
Electronics expo highlights green tech
This year's GlobalTronics expo, which highlights emerging trends in printed electronics, is focusing on the theme of 'Green technologies for electronics manufacturing', during a three-day event in Singapore, says Manufacturing Digital.
Printed electronics implies the printing of conductive ink such as electronics circuitry on a common platform like paper, plastic or textile. The market for printed electronics is estimated to rise by over $300 billion in the next 20 years from the current $1.18 billion globally.
The expo will highlight recycling and waste management capabilities, energy efficient products and services, and items that can be converted to renewable energy.
