Informix ports Dynamic Server.2000 to Linux and Itanium HP-UX

Johannesburg, 19 Feb 2001

Informix Software has announced that it has optimised Dynamic Server.2000, the first of four members of the Informix Internet Foundation.2000 product line, for Linux and for Itanium-based servers running the HP-UX operating system. The port of Foundation.2000 products to the Itanium processor family architecture, co-invented by Hewlett-Packard and Intel, will increase performance, capacity and scalability for customers of Informix Software and HP. The port to Linux is in line with the rapid growth of the open source operating system and has strong local relevance: South Africa is the 24th largest nation of Linux users worldwide.

"By porting IDS.2000 to HP-UX, Informix and HP are ensuring seamless migration to the Itanium family platform, ongoing return on investment for customers, and allowing them to take advantage of new technology," says Simon Jeggo, GM for Informix SA. "We`ll be porting other Foundation.2000 products to HP-UX in line with HP`s shipments of Itanium-based systems."

The port of to SuSE Linux on Compaq`s Alpha processor is the result of a three-way relationship between Informix, Compaq, and SuSE to bring the power and memory capacity of Compaq`s 64-bit Alpha system to the Linux market.

"Dynamic Server.2000 on Linux Alpha gives users power, scalability, and flexibility at a favourable price," notes Jeggo.

Informix Internet Foundation.2000 is a 24x7, high-performance, fully extensible data and content management platform for the Internet. Dynamic Server.2000 is a transaction engine that can support thousands of users and provides the reliability, scalability and availability necessary for large transaction processing systems.

Informix has also announced the availability of Foundation.2000 and Cloudscape 3.5, the Java database for embeddable systems and distributed e-business applications, on Linux. The inclusion of Cloudscape on Linux will enable developers and users to develop and deploy Web-based applications that scale from the smallest devices to enterprise-class systems.
