From the inception of artificial intelligence (AI) to intelligent applications, analytics, the Internet of things (IOT) and, of course, blockchain, the future is still poised for the value of these technologies and developments to be fully realised. For South Africa, the adoption and immersion of these technologies looks positive, yet there is a risk the uptake may fall a little behind the rest of the globe.
As a result, global technology services firm, In2IT Technologies, together with Cisco Systems South Africa, a worldwide leader in IT and networking, hosted an event last month at The Michelangelo Hotel, in Sandton, Johannesburg, on: 'Decoding the DNA of a Digital Future'. Here, industry leaders came together in order to discuss the latest trends and topics in the ICT industry.
Vishal Barapatre, CTO at In2IT Technologies, says: "Businesses are rapidly changing due to new applications and emerging technologies. As a result, organisations need to change their processes in order to stay ahead of the curve. Together with Cisco, we decided to host this event to inform and discuss traditional ways of doing things and how the digital structure has, and will, change this."
Barapatre spoke alongside the likes of Saurabh Kumar, CEO at In2IT Technologies, and Edward Agostinho, Consulting Systems Engineer at Cisco Systems South Africa at the event. These topics included an introduction to Digital Twin, IOT, Build a Smart Future, Going digital is the only way to go, and blockchain functional proof point of "know your customer (KYC)". In addition, In2IT had a live demonstration of its blockchain-based technology.
"Traditional methods of business have changed because the digital structure has changed. For example, blockchain and the Internet of things are now a focus within large organisations, and security will change along with that, both from the enterprise and end-user point of view," Baparatre explains.
Edward Agostinho, Consulting Systems Engineer at Cisco, adds: "Technologies like IOT are currently enabling companies to be more agile and productive. We hope this event brings insight and knowledge to business leaders in various industries such as manufacturing, transportation and energy, on how IOT can assist customers and create revenue streams more quickly for the organisation."
At the event, discussions were held with CEOs, and demonstrations took place in order to show practical and real examples of how technologies, such as blockchain, can be used and integrated within the business.
"We were happy to have partnered with Cisco on this event; they are one of In2IT strategy partners and a market leader in many spaces. Collectively, we hope that attendees of this event were able to gain insight into the IT industry and hopefully stay ahead of the curve," concludes Barapatre.
