Yesterday, Mark Templeton, president and CEO of Citrix, welcomed over 3 000 customers, resellers and partners from around the world to the company`s annual knowledge exchange. Now in its ninth year, the Citrix iForum, being held at Walt Disney World in Florida, ends on 25 October.

Citrix is unveiling several new products and strategies at iForum, which are being highlighted in 58 sessions.

Collaboration with IBM has yielded plans for "Project Kent", a solution that provides dispersed workers the ability to connect to applications, data and people during a disruptive event.

The solution will be offered as part of IBM`s Virtual Workplace Continuity service product. Citrix claims it integrates emergency notifications, employee updates, access to applications, and communications and collaboration.

The solution will use USB sticks to simplify access to business tools during a disruptive situation.

Load balancing

Citrix also presented its Global Load Balancing for Presentation Server solution. The solution, said Citrix, enables uninterrupted access to applications delivered by Citrix Presentation Server, even if entire data centres go offline as the result of a natural disasters or other emergencies.

The solution uses Citrix NetScaler technology to provide application access across distributed multi-site Citrix Presentation Server deployments.

In the event that a regularly accessed Presentation Server site is temporarily unavailable for any reason, application users are automatically redirected to a designated alternate Presentation Server location, the company said.

By preventing disruptions to application availability, enterprises can maintain workforce productivity and business continuity even under the worst of conditions, it added.

The Dynamic Desktop was also announced. It aims to bring increased personalisation and flexibility to desktops to support a broad range of tasks performed by office workers, and can be refreshed and managed from the data centre.

Templeton said the company envisions a world where anyone can work from anywhere, anytime. "That seems like a business idea, but it`s a social idea as well." Its philosophy is centred on application delivery, application security and application visibility, he explained.
