The The International e-Sports Federation (IeSF) has announced the host city for the sixth e-Sports World Championship for 2014. The venue will be the Baku Crystal Hall, Baku, Azerbaijan and the event is to be held from 12 to 17 November.
According to the a media statement, the hosting of the World Championships in Baku is a joint venture between the IeSF, the Azerbaijan Cyber Sports Federation and Ministry of Youth and Sports.
The tiles to be played at the e-Sports World Championship Baku are Dota2 in the male division, Tekken Tag tournament 2 for the female division, with StarCraft II: Heart of the Swarm set to be contested in both divisions.
Mind Sports South Africa (MSSA) states that SA has enjoyed great success at the previous two World Championships with Gabriella Isaacs finishing in second place in the StarCraft II event (for women) in 2012 and Lyrene K"uhn consistently finishing close to the medal positions for the game of Tekken in both 2012 and 2013. Robert Botha too established his international reputation at the IeSF World championships, when in 2012, Botha finished fifth overall.
In order to qualify for national team trials, a player has to be a South African citizen, have a current South African passport and have qualified through an official MSSA regional, provincial and/or national championships.
