ICT evaluates emergency performance

ICT Administration, along with other departments concerned, held a mock rescue exercise in Islamabad, Pakistan, in the wake of a bomb blast at CDA Disaster Management Academy, reports The Nation.

The exercise was conducted in order to check the preparedness of the departments and their response and reaction time to the emergency as part of disaster management plan chalked out by the ICT Administration to deal with any likely natural calamity and other emergencies in a befitting manner.

Since each department had been informed about holding of this mock exercise, the exercise was well co-ordinated and response, reaction time and co-ordination by each department were highly professional to handle the emergency.

Oz Defence invests $708m in IT

The Australian Department of Defence intends to inject $708 million into its ICT systems over the next 10 years as part of its strategic reform programme, according to ZDNet Australia.

The $708 million in costs will drive the $1.9 billion in ICT savings Defence hopes to achieve over the same time period, with $250 million in each year thereafter, according to the department.

Only half of the $1.2 billion spent on technology each year is visible to the CIO Greg Farr, according to the department, causing inefficiencies.

ICT jobs aplenty

Malaysian displaced workers and graduates looking for jobs have been urged to seriously consider a career in the information and communications technology (ICT) industry, according to Malaysia Star.

Multimedia Development Corporation COO, Ng Wan Peng, says they could consider applying for the hundreds of different ICT jobs available.

“ICT jobs today are not confined to purely the technical. Today, we see a lot of service-based ICT jobs available from business process outsourcing industries to creative multimedia,” said Ng.
