HP threatens Oracle with lawsuit

HP has threatened legal action in response to Oracle's recent decision to withdraw support for its software on future Itanium processors, writes The Register.

In his keynote address, at HP's Discover 2011 event in Las Vegas, Martin Fink - senior VP and GM of HP's Business Critical Systems unit - hinted that HP will soon take aim at Oracle over the software company's shock Itanium announcement in March.

The company has confirmed that HP's top brass recently sent a letter to Safra Catz - Oracle's co-president and CFO, who runs the operations of the software giant - telling Oracle it is legally obligated to reinstate development on the Itanium platform.

Nintendo shares closed at 16 970 yen ($212.44), down more than 5%.

Dell snubs US for China with tablet debut

Dell will unveil its highly anticipated 10-inch tablet in the Chinese market first, based on an emerging belief that the US market isn't mature enough for a successful Android release, Dell executives said, according to Cnet.

Dell's Streak 10 Pro will be unveiled in China this summer and in the US market probably sometime next year, said John Thode, a Dell VP and manager of Dell's mobility business.

The US market simply doesn't offer a viable 10-inch tablet strategy for Dell, he said. “This is not an either-or for us. This is a choice about where is the best place to take our story and avoids a bunch of the inhibitors and barriers to success that we've seen in the US market.”

Google honours late guitarist Les Paul

As if there weren't enough distractions on the Internet, today Google is tempting users with a playable guitar on its home page, reports the Brisbane Times.

Celebrating the 96th birthday of the late guitar legend Les Paul, the 'Google doodle' can be strummed like one of his famous Gibson guitars.

Google previously used its doodle to honour Austrian designer Joseph Franz, Russian cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin and Charlie Chaplin, among many others.
