HP takes on Google, Amazon, MS

Computing giant HP has rolled out a private trial of its cloud service as it prepares to compete with Amazon, Google and Microsoft for the public cloud market, reports ZDnet.

The open source offerings, called HP Cloud Compute and HP Cloud Object Storage, will provide computer and storage resources from HP's own data centres, reveals PC World.

HP will use the OpenStack set of open source cloud software tools to provide the foundation for these services. HP joined the OpenStack project in July.

Cloud Pro states the new offerings will be available for public, private and hybrid cloud platforms and that the beta would be available for a limited number of users.

According to HP, Cloud Compute allows users to deploy compute instances on-demand, customising them to handle customers' workloads and providing the ability to scale up.
