HP, local execs to explore tech business at Angola launch

Stepping up activities in what it considers to be a key region for information and communication technology, HP, the business solutions giant, is to host a marketing event and seminar for Angola`s principal business executives.

Scheduled for 13 and 14 November at The Tropico Hotel in Luanda, the seminar will be aimed directly at business executives and technology professionals from three major market sectors: telecommunications, financial services, and oil and gas manufacturers. Gerald Naidoo, regional sales manager for Africa at HP, explains that these organisations are the ones that HP is best positioned to work with.

"There`s huge potential in Angola at this point in time. The country is being supported by substantial foreign direct investment and the telecommunications, financial services, and oil and gas industries are booming," he says.

"To this end, we are investing in an infrastructure that will enable us to support business in the country. This means focusing sales and solution staff on customers in the region, as well as strengthening partnerships with resellers and systems integrators on the ground in Angola."

Delegates from telecommunications providers can expect to hear how HP`s solutions - which include the enhanced portfolio from Compaq following the successful completion of the merger - help build, maintain and manage mission-critical enterprise computing infrastructures. The company`s OpenView and telco software solutions will also come under the spotlight, as will the focused solutions for fixed-line and mobile communications operators.

The banking industry representatives will be introduced to HP and partner solutions for treasury systems, risk management and core banking; those delegates from the central banking industry will hear about HP`s complete financial service solution, with the focus placed heavily on real-time gross settlement (RTGS) offerings.

From an oil and gas industry standpoint, HP will present solutions that streamline the efficiency of manufacturer`s upstream and downstream operations - especially where operational efficiency, ICT infrastructure management, technical computing and enterprise storage are concerned.

"We already have a significant installed base in Angola," adds Naidoo, "and by creating a forum where business executives can explore the full range of our solutions will cement those ties still further." HP will also reaffirm its go-to-market strategy - something the company terms as a "hybrid engagement model".

"We are working with our partners in Angola to develop and deliver business. In some cases we`ll engage directly with the potential customer and bring the channel in on the delivery side. In other cases, we`ll support the channel throughout the entire engagement ... it all depends on the specifics of each situation."
