HP has added to its cloud portfolio with new solutions that it says provide enterprises with better agility, simplified management and improved security for hybrid environments.

Speaking during HP Discover, in Barcelona, on Wednesday, Robert Youngjohns, GM of HP Autonomy, said new delivery models are influencing decisions on where applications should reside - in the cloud or on-premise.

He added that, often, applications and workloads end up living across multiple environments, making hybrid delivery essential. "HP is focused on delivering hybrid solutions that bridge traditional IT with private, public and managed clouds."

Solutions introduced this week aim to meet this need, Youngjohns said, and include the next-generation HP CloudSystem, a solution that builds and manages private clouds.

He says the latest version of CloudSystem features a new consumer-inspired user interface and simplified management tools. "In addition, the deployment process has been improved to allow clients to set up and deploy a private cloud environment in a matter of hours."

HP's new CloudSystem adds HP's Hybrid Cloud Management Platform, a management solution that allows enterprises and service providers to deliver secure cloud services across public and private clouds.

The platform also integrates HP Cloud Service Automation (CSA) version 4.0, as well as native support for both HP CloudOS with OpenStack and the open-source standard TOSCA (Topology and Orchestration Specification for Cloud Applications).

He says this aims to offer simpler application portability and management of both hybrid and heterogeneous IT environments.

HP has also added to its virtual private clouds (VPCs) offering, introducing a range of VPC solutions, from standardised self service, to a customised, fully managed service model.

HP's updated Managed VPC gives clients the choice of virtual or physical configurations, and multiple tiers of storage, hypervisors and network connectivity types.

Finally, in line with HP's hybrid delivery strategy, Youngjohns said the company is offering HP Flexible Capacity, an on-premise solution of enterprise-class infrastructure with cloud economics, including pay-for-use and immediate scalability of server, storage, networking and software capacity.
