With enterprise data volumes growing exponentially, companies face significant challenges in protecting data that is distributed over a variety of networks - physical, virtual and cloud.

Introduced today, at HP Discover 2013, HP Data Protector 8, the new version of HP's flagship enterprise-class backup and recovery offering, offers several features to help businesses protect their information efficiently and effectively, said David Scott, senior VP and GM: Storage Division, HP.

Addressing today's distributed big data demands, said Scott, Data Protector 8 takes the scalability and performance of backup and recovery processes to a whole new level.

He said, for the first time, a single backup instance can scale to accommodate thousands of clients, and run up to 100 000 sessions each day.

In addition, the solution can manage up to one trillion unique file names, which is over 100 times the scalability of existing traditional enterprise data protection software applications.

Data Protector 8 also represents a significant leap in single-session backup performance and scalability to help address the demands of data-intensive computing environments, explained Scott.

The new offering also enables protection for up to 50 000 clients in a single management environment and delivers up to 144TB/hour data throughput performance.
