HP boosts hybrid infrastructure support

HP has revved up its business service management (BSM) product - software which, HP says, provides a two-way lens through which line-of-business managers and IT staff can each understand the other's view of business service priorities and IT infrastructures supporting those services, reports The Register.

In the decades-long struggle to align IT with business needs, HP reckons BSM 9.0 is a major step forward.

Richard Foden, UK and Ireland marketing director for HP Software and Solutions, says the alignment has become more complex as businesses use various combinations of in-house data centres, physical and virtualised infrastructures, private and public clouds, and hybrid delivery models.

To address the growing problems associated with ad hoc cloud service adoption within corporate networks, Jamcracker has released its Platform Enterprise Edition, writes TMCnet.

The Jamcracker Platform includes unified cloud management dashboards that provide detailed reports on usage that allow enterprise IT departments to perform various functions.

The Jamcracker Platform allows IT organisations to offer a catalogue of aggregated services with unified provisioning, access control, administration, auditing, monitoring, support, and departmental chargebacks to enable enterprises to unify command and control for disparate cloud services.

IT performance company Riverbed Technology says Medi-Clinic, a global private hospital group, has deployed 58 Riverbed Steelhead appliances and the central management console at its southern African operations, according to Market Watch.

The wide area network optimisation deployment will support Medi-Clinic's existing private cloud computing strategy and allow it to avoid a bandwidth upgrade, which would have cost an additional R5 million per year.

The company recovered the initial capital investment within 11 months and has seen an 80% improvement in file download speeds, which has resulted in a dramatic improvement in employee productivity.
