How to have a fun work culture for employees

Johannesburg, 20 May 2021

You know what they say – positive vibes always bring positive results.

You cannot work under stress and anxiety, and you’ll have much better results when you feel appreciated. Having a fun work culture for employees means getting things going a lot smoother.

Luckily enough, there are so many exciting ways of having a fun work culture for employees. All you really need is to know how to take the initiative, and we’ll gladly provide the right ideas:

Take your team to a cinema

Everybody likes movies, so why not gather all your team members and watch a nice comedy movie together once every week or month? That will surely make your employees feel more connected and as though they really have a lot in common. The movie could be anything with Jim Carrey, Eddie Murphy, Will Farrell, Robin Williams, Rowan Atkinson, Adam Sandler, Leslie Nielsen and many more.

Go out on a karaoke night

Everybody likes to sing, right? And if you’re really bad at it, you must have imagined yourself on a stage at least once. Karaoke gives you the illusion of becoming a rockstar or pop music singer, and it doesn’t even require you to have any real singing skills. Everybody has a favourite song, so why not get to know your workers’ musical tastes when you go out to a bar once in a while?

Happy hour

Employees being invited to grab a beer or two as soon as they finish their workday represents a usual practice for some companies. Some companies even offer an unlimited supply of drinks. Of course, drinking on the job is not a good idea at all, but that doesn’t mean you can’t do it after the work is done.

Start a video game championship

A lot of adults play video games these days, and it’s totally understandable. Games have become incredibly realistic, and getting some of your employees to play video games together will certainly grant them a lot of fun. Whether it’s FIFA, Counter-Strike, GTA V or any other huge title, starting a game championship will help your team bond much faster.

Solitaire

Speaking of video games, you should also consider Solitaire. As its name suggests, Solitaire is a game for the more solitary types of people. But that doesn’t mean you cannot get your employees to compete against one another by playing this game. Solitaire is one of the most popular card games ever made – famous actor Tom Hanks is one of numerous people who spoke openly about how insanely addictive the game can get. More to it, you can play the popular versions of the game such as FreeCell.

Play dress-up

Many companies offer their employees the chance to participate in specific theme days. You can get your team to dress up in all sorts of crazy and innovative ways and even give a prize to the one who brings the most interesting outfit. It doesn’t necessarily have to be Halloween. You can get your employees to put on outfits based on other special events. If it’s Christmas, for instance, you can ask your employees to dress as Santa Claus and Mrs Claus.

The cooking class

Not everyone likes to cook, but everybody likes to eat. This means that initiating a cooking class, where your team members can compete against each other to provide the most delicious meals, is a great idea. Of course, you can even reward and challenge employees if you wish.
