Hortors legal diary online

Johannesburg, 27 Mar 2001

Foremost vendor of legal stationery, Hortors, has announced the Web-enablement of its Legal Diary. With the completion of a front-end application by e-business solutions provider Visual Information Systems (VIS), legal practitioners are able to query court dates and contact details for legal professionals. The solution also involves quick and easy content publishing and an online productivity tool for attorneys.

Hortors, which boasts a large portion of the South African legal fraternity as its customer base, publishes a variety of legal material, including the Hortors Legal Diary, which contains court diaries and contact information for attorneys, advocates, sheriffs, valuers, appraisers, law lecturers and the bench.

According to VIS business development director, Jonathan Marks, the website is already active at www.hortors.co.za, but the company`s involvement extends beyond the mere provision of an e-business solution.

"In the case of Hortors, VIS is playing a far greater role than merely a technical solutions provider," he points out, "we are effectively also acting as a business consulting firm, advising Hortors on new product definition and packaging."

Marks says the companies are currently finalising contract details that will see VIS developing an entire new suite of products for the legal market in collaboration with Hortors. VIS is also applying its technical skills to the development of e-business solutions for Hortors on the mobile PalmOS platform.

Current back-end development of the application will also enable active content publishing and online purchase of statutory forms, thereby circumventing existing tedious administration processes and adding real value to Hortors` client base.

Elize Bungay, director of Hortors Stationery, says the VIS solution forms part of the company`s ongoing commitment to digitisation as a means of competing more aggressively in the market

According to Marks, this creation of a competitive business advantage for clients is what makes VIS a leader in its field.

"We are not merely a software development company, "he concludes, "rather, the diverse talents and experience within the VIS team enable us to offer significant strategic insights and technical solutions that grow and evolve with the forward thinking companies we service."
