Guidelines for greening IT released

Telstra and the WWF-Australia have released a white paper highlighting how ICT can improve environmental sustainability for large organisations and deliver positive commercial outcomes, reports Now we are talking.

It also introduced a set of tools to enable Australian enterprise and government organisations to estimate the environmental and financial benefits of ICT investment.

This comes as the Australian government's proposed Carbon Pollution Reduction Scheme gets closer to implementation in 2010, setting financial incentives for organisations to adopt alternatives to increasing energy use and non-essential business travel.

The new software product suite includes host server software and remote device software that can be pre-configured and installed on Systech's network device server and IPG gateway products.

Systech's NativeCOM port redirector software can be enabled to facilitate application access to remote serial-based devices.

Big ICT opportunities in off-shoring

A study by international consultancy firm Deloitte has found that Chile's IT industry could focus its efforts in the off-shoring services area, according to Your Communication News.

The study, commissioned by Chile's state development agency Corfo, ICT industry association Acti, and software sector association Gechs, aimed to identify a development strategy and generate a plan of action for the sector.

According to the study, the Chilean ICT industry has strong growth potential and can help to develop and strengthen other economic sectors. It also found that Chile should leverage the use of ICT among the country's various world-class industries, which include mining, salmon, among others.
