Mimecast, the leading supplier of cloud-based email archiving, continuity and security for Microsoft Exchange, has implemented its Unified Email Management (UEM) solution at IT solutions provider, Gijima. Mimecast also enabled the group's extensive mobile workforce with instant access to their archive.
After a brief but serious loss in messaging capability and in a bid to adhere to internal governance and external legislature, Gijima decided it was time to move to the cloud. This resulted in high e-mail availability and consistent uptime for all users at all times.
“We reduced the complexity of our Exchange environment several years ago, with the expectation that this would improve e-mail availability. While this effort simplified e-mail management, it didn't solve all the challenges associated with an on-premise system,” says Riaan van der Westhuizen, group manager for infrastructure at Gijima.
After evaluating numerous e-mail archiving solutions, both cloud-based and on-premise, it became clear that Mimecast was an obvious choice.
“We initially deployed Mimecast Unified Email Management in 2011. The difference has been obvious to us from day one; record retention is no longer a worry and we haven't experienced a single occurrence of downtime since then,” adds Van der Westhuizen.
Mimecast's UEM solution met the group's requirements, including e-mail security, hygiene and branding, while offering the IT department control over Gijima's e-mail environment via an administration console.
In addition, Gijima's call for an effective solution to its mobility challenges was addressed by Mimecast's mobile services, which allows users to securely and easily access all messages for up to 10 years.
“We preloaded Mimecast's e-mail application onto every applicable mobile device that we handed over to our employees. Over 3 000 handsets and tablets currently use this service; it's been quite the success story for us,” confirms Van der Westhuizen.
A significant reduction in spam has also been noted since using Mimecast, according to Van der Westhuizen. “Some employees had to spend an hour cleaning out their inboxes, it was extremely tiresome. Today, it is no longer an issue and we feel confident about the state of our e-mail security overall.”
“Mimecast allows organisations the ability to provide their employees with secure access to their e-mail archive. Employees also have the flexibility to use both their business and personal devices, without the cost or complexity of managing additional licences. Gijima has always been a vital Mimecast partner. We are delighted to be working with one of South Africa's foremost IT services groups, and are appreciative of the confidence they have placed in our technology,” comments Bernadine Joaquim, regional channel manager at Mimecast South Africa.
