BAE Systems' Land Systems Gear Ratio displayed its latest driveline technology at the African Aerospace and Defence exhibition, last week, putting on show a more powerful transfer case for heavier armoured vehicles.
The RGR17T transfer case was specifically developed for increased requirements for heavier armoured vehicles and the gearbox has been further engineered for applications that can serve a 21-ton 4x4 vehicle.
The weight of many armoured personnel carriers have dramatically increased in recent years as users in combat zones ask for more protection to better ward off increasingly sophisticated enemy attacks.
The transfer case has a maximum permissible input torque in high range of 10 840Nm and in low range 7 000Nm.
Neutral position enables on-the-move shift with intelligent control and the 50:50 torque splitting differential can be locked. The transfer case is also adaptable for a 6x6 vehicle application up to 24 metric tons, says Land Systems Gear Ratio GM Piet Kruger.
