EDS has announced that Gartner, a leading IT industry research and advisory firm, placed EDS in the leader`s category - as measured by both ability to execute and vision - in its first Magic Quadrant study on the product lifecycle management (PLM) market.
According to Gartner, leaders are vendors who are performing well today, have a clear vision of market direction and are actively building competencies to sustain their leadership position in the market. EDS made the announcement while also announcing leading UK women`s fashion chain New Look has selected its flagship Teamcenter PLM software to help reduce the company`s "time-to-profits" by linking its buyers, designers and supply chain partners in a collaborative, Web-based environment - marking the initial adoption of Teamcenter for retail applications.
Evaluation process
Gartner`s PLM Magic Quadrant evaluation process involved the assessment of companies` viability, the features and functions of their products, the service and support available after products are sold and their core technology. In addition, Gartner considered each firm`s ability to support the entire lifecycle process, including the areas of strategy, planning, management and execution.
"This leader quadrant position clearly confirms the strategy EDS PLM Solutions has been delivering against since it was formed over 18 months ago," said Tony Affuso, president of EDS PLM Solutions. "We believe the results we have delivered since then speak for themselves. In 2002, our first full year as part of EDS` portfolio, we had a $2.1 billion presence with over 1 million production seats in the PLM market, surpassing all other companies. Our vision has also allowed us to grow in traditional markets, such as automotive and aerospace, while expanding into new markets such as consumer packaged goods, retail and fashion."
EDS PLM Solutions delivers proven open, scalable solutions to more than 34 500 clients worldwide. These solutions help to drive customer-focused product and process innovations, increase agility and deliver superior financial returns. All of these results are delivered by increasing a client`s ability to create and apply its extended enterprise`s intellectual capital.
The Magic Quadrant is copyrighted April, 2003 by Gartner, Inc and is reused with permission, which permission should not be deemed to be an endorsement of any company or product depicted in the quadrant. The Magic Quadrant is Gartner`s opinion and is an analytical representation of a marketplace at and for a specific time period. It measures vendors against Gartner defined criteria for a marketplace. The positioning of vendors within a Magic Quadrant is based on the complex interplay of many factors. Gartner does not advise enterprises to select only those firms in the "Leaders" quadrant. In some situations, firms in the Visionary, Challenger, or Niche Player quadrants may be the right matches for an enterprise`s requirements. Well-informed vendor selection decisions should rely on more than a Magic Quadrant.
