Full range of SuSE Linux training courses now available from Linux campus.

Johannesburg, 03 Jul 2001

Saffral Consulting, the southern African training and business partners of SuSE Linux AG, can now offer the full range of accredited SuSE Linux training courses as well as their own Linux 101 training course, through their training division known as the Linux Campus.

Successful students receive Linux Campus certification and will be able to sit the LPI examinations and become certified in their particular field. Courses are offered either during the working day or after hours and weekends.

Linux Campus offers the following LPI & LPA aligned courses.

SuSE Linux for users: 2-day course

Target audience: This course is aimed at users switching to Linux from Windows. Participants should have basic computing knowledge and want to learn how to use the Linux operating system on a day to day basis.

Course objectives: In the course you will learn how to configure and use the graphical interface, KDE. Also, you will explore the possibilities offered by the programs Applixware, StarOffice and Netscape.

SuSE Linux System Administration: 5-day course.

Target audience: Future Linux system administrators and ambitious home users.

Course objectives: By the end of the course you will be able to install, configure and administer Linux as a workstation. You will be familiar with simple shell commands, backup tools and recovery methods.

SuSE Linux Network Administration I (Intranet): 5-day course.

Target audience: Network operators, system administrators.

Course objectives: Participants will be able to set up and administrate a Linux network. Fundamental Intranet services and the use of standard applications are presented.

SuSE Linux Network Administration II (Internet): 5-day course.

Target audience: Operators of small and medium-sized networks, system administrators in companies, Internet service providers.

Course objectives: Participants will be able to connect a Linux network to the Internet and make available the most important network services.

SuSE Linux Security: 5-day course.

Target audience: Network operators with an Internet connection, system and security administrators, and Internet service providers.

Course objectives: When connecting your own local network to public networks, such as the Internet, many risks can arise regarding security in your own network, as well as for all data which is sent over the public network and can be received from there. This course introduces the fundamental risks, explains these in detail and allows participants to put the corresponding security measures into practice.

SuSE Linux in a Heterogeneous Network: 3-day course.

Target audience: System administrators of heterogeneous networks.

Course objectives: Participants will connect Linux to other computer systems, on the one hand emulating computer systems, and on the other, by experimenting with gateways. They will be given an in-depth knowledge of how Windows, Netware and Apple function in a network. Linux assumes many roles here, for example as a file server and print server, but also as a NetBIOS- (WINS-) server or a Domain Name server.

Courses are run from Linux Campus offices in Rivonia or for corporate customers, at their own training venues using SuSE accredited trainers. Other training establishments who would like to become accredited to teach the SuSE Linux curriculum should contact the Campus for further details.
