Fujitsu Siemens Computers, the leading European IT company, has impressively demonstrated the power of its PRIMERGY BX660 server blade worldwide by setting a new record in the MAPI Messaging Benchmark (MMB3)*.
On 21 January 2005, it achieved the outstanding result of 9 500 MMB3 users in the single server category, the best mark for all published four-way servers, in the Exchange Server 2003 MMB3. As a result, the PRIMERGY BX660 was able to achieve 200 MMB3 users more, yet 50% better response times, than rival systems that were identically equipped as regards CPUs and memory.
The measured configuration comprised a PRIMERGY BX600 blade server system with a PRIMERGY BX660 four-way server blade that ran Exchange Server and Active Directory. The PRIMERGY BX660 was equipped with four Intel Xeon 3.0 GHz processors with a 4MB third level cache, 4GB of working memory and two 18GB hard disks for the operating system and Active Directory. Three FibreCAT CX500 with a total of 270 36GB hard disks were used as the storage subsystem for the Exchange data.
"Achieving world records across the product range demonstrates that we understand Microsoft Exchange, the leading messaging and collaboration platform very well," said Dieter Herzog, Executive Vice-President of Enterprise Products, Fujitsu Siemens Computers.
"This expertise is critical to our customers. Through understanding the overall environment, we are able to optimise the set up and performance of Microsoft Exchange Server. The experiences gathered during our own in-house migration have been included in our easyXchange offering. "
"This world-best underlines our joint efforts for Exchange Server consolidation and migration based on the easyXchange solution of Fujitsu Siemens Computers," stated Mauro Meanti, General Manager, Server & Tools Group, Microsoft EMEA. "The benchmark shows the improvements in performance and manageability we`ve made on the Exchange platform to meet the messaging needs of even the world`s largest organisations."
PRIMERGY servers are the first-class choice for Microsoft Exchange Server in the two-way server segment with the PRIMERGY TX300 S2 and the one-way server class with the TX150 S2, as well as in the four-node cluster category with the PRIMERGY BX620 S2.
Microsoft Exchange Server on PRIMERGY is the preferred platform of various customers across Europe for their messaging and collaboration infrastructure. Among others these include Deutsche Messe AG, Federal Ministry of the Interior (Austria), Europ"aische Reiseversicherung AG (European Travel Insurance), and Mee`us Group BV.
* Microsoft`s Exchange MMB3 benchmark
The MAPI Messaging Benchmark (MMB3) was developed by Microsoft to enable a performance comparison of server systems across vendors using Microsoft Exchange Server 2003. Using the MMB3 user profile, the benchmark measures throughput during an eight-hour working day on the basis of a defined user profile that represents the mail traffic of a typical e-mail user, and comprises everyday mail activities such as sending, searching, reading, forwarding, as well as scheduling or the use of distribution lists.
