FTI launches SETA accredited National Certificate: Business Analysis - NQF level 6

Johannesburg, 14 Jul 2015

Faculty Training Institute (FTI) is proud to announce the recent graduation of the first group of delegates participating in the Cape Town pilot of its newly launched, SETA accredited, NQF level 6, National Certificate: Business Analysis (NCBA).

FTI's prestigious industry recognised DipBA programme, which has set the standard for education in the business analysis sector for the past two decades, has been revamped and refreshed, resulting in the successful launch of FTI's exciting new NCBA offering.

"In keeping with our legacy of attracting talented people, both delegates and staff, FTI has launched the NCBA to more tightly align with the prevailing legislative landscape. This will ensure FTI Business Analysis graduates continue to be highly sought after by employers and that FTI remains the preferred training provider for the business analysis industry," elaborates Stephen Endersby, Corporate General Manager of FTI. "The NCBA is rooted in the theory, practice and skills transfer which has been so well received and acknowledged by industry on our past offerings, and become synonymous with FTI. There have been small content revisions and added innovations, but the essence of preceding qualifications remain. This means that delegates still receive the same high level of training, while changes made to achieve the SETA accreditation will ensure that their employers are able to claim skills development incentives in the form of SETA funding, B-BEEE scorecards and tax incentives."

The NCBA is designed to develop confident, competent, multi-skilled professional business analysts who are capable of reducing organisational risk and increasing organisational value from the deployment of technology-based solutions. It will also map closely to the content of the Business Analysis Body of Knowledge (BABOK), which is produced by the International Institute of Business Analysis (IIBA). The NCBA is a registered qualification with the South African Qualifications Authority. The qualification provides mid-level access for the development of business analysis competencies. It has also been developed to enable delegates to access higher education and provide flexible access to lifelong learning.

The NCBA is an NQF 6 qualification, recognised by the MICT SETA, and as an Institute of Sectoral and Occupational Excellence in Business Analysis with the MICT SETA, FTI has tailored various pathways to achieve the NCBA. A delegate's prior training and current business analysis experience will determine which pathway best suits their present skill level, ultimately resulting in the SETA accredited qualification. The three pathways available to delegates to achieve the NCBA are as follows:

* National Certificate in Business Analysis, Recognition of Prior Learning (NCBAPL) - an eight-week part-time course, suited to delegates that have extensive business analysis training and workplace experience. This course has been piloted in Cape Town and Johannesburg. The first public course date is scheduled for late August 2015.

* Applied Programme in Business Analysis (APBA) - the five-month course is primarily aimed at allowing delegates who have successfully completed FTI's Certificate Programme in Business Analysis to complete their practical, work-based assignments to obtain the national qualification. This course is set to run for the first time towards the end of 2015.

* National Certificate in Business Analysis (NCBA) - an eight-month part-time course suited to practising business analysts with more than one year's business analysis experience. The first NCBA course will begin in September 2015.

FTI recently held a graduation ceremony for the first NCBAPL graduates, as a result of the pilot held in Cape Town earlier this year. The graduation was the result of many years of hard work and dedication by the academic team involved in the development of the NCBA. "It really is wonderful to see our determination finally pay off," concludes Mike Eccles, FTI's Programme Director. "I know that our new product will help FTI continue to develop professional and highly skilled business analysts, instrumental to the growth and development of the industry."
