An African forum, focusing on WiMax and code division multiple access (CDMA), is to be staged in Midrand next week. The African WiMax and CDMA Forum, from 24 to 26 April, aims to provide ISPs, telecoms operators and developers with an update on the latest wireless broadband technology.
International operators in the fields of CDMA and WiMax will address delegates on the appropriateness of the technology for the African market and challenges in rolling it out, says event organiser Aitec Africa.
Key international speakers include George Mansho, senior VP of the CDMA Development Group; Frederic Leroudier, Aperto Networks senior director of engineering; Tim Parle, Lucent Technologies director of business development; Steve Nossel, Intel regional business manager for the Middle East, Turkey and Africa.
Mike van den Bergh, MD of Gateway Communications SA, will discuss VOIP and WiMax, while Jacob Kanner, a director of Israeli-based Alvarion, will focus on the future of WiMAx and mobile broadband.
Sponsors include Aperto Networks, Redline Communications, Huawei Technologies, Lucent Technologies and CDMA technology developer Qualcomm, Aitec Africa says.
"Qualcomm is excited about the opportunity this forum is going to provide to educate the African market about the latest 3G broadband technology. 3G CDMA gives the continent the opportunity to leapfrog the next generation of wireless communications," said Dr Tom O`Neill, VP, business development at Qualcomm.
