In SA, where capped Internet accounts are still the norm for many, streaming videos online is a bandwidth-depleting indulgence.
Customers of one local Internet service provider (ISP) can now watch YouTube videos in the evenings without their Internet caps being affected.
FNB Connect, the bank's ISP, revealed yesterday that it is offering its FNB Connect Surf customers the chance to browse and watch YouTube videos online at no cost between 7pm and 11pm for the next two years.
The offer is not only open to FNB Connect's existing client base, but to new users as well. Registration is free and newly registered users will also receive one free GB of ADSL data to browse other Web sites.
This YouTube promotion is an extension of a previous one, during which the ISP offered users the chance to browse and watch content on the world's most popular video viewing site for a period of two months. The promotion proved so successful that the company decided to relaunch it, this time for a longer period.
“This has been very popular among our clients and we achieved a 70% growth rate based on our last promotion,” says Farren Roper, head of products and markets at FNB Connect. “We would like to offer this to our ADSL customers to thank them for their continued patronage, as well as attract a new base of customers who want to enjoy this data indulgence.”
YouTube is not the only social networking site that is now freely accessible to FNB Connect's customers. The ISP already offers its ADSL clients free data for visiting and using Facebook and Twitter.
