Enterasys Networks boosts fibre optic capacity for Matrix switching family

Enterasys Networks has broadened its switching offerings by announcing new 48 and 24 port fibre optic modules for the Matrix E7 and Matrix E6 (formerly SmartSwitch 6000) platforms.

These new modules enable Matrix customers to take advantage of the benefits of fibre optic cabling across corporate or campus networks, while also using the Matrix` set of advanced features for security, traffic control and network management.

The modules (dubbed 6H308-48 and 6H308-24) provide 100BaseFX connectivity to deliver Fast Ethernet from the network edge directly to file servers or desktop computers using fibre optic cable.

"The security and resiliency features of fibre optic cable plants make them ideal for network environments with concerns for intrusion, distance limitations or RF [radio frequency] interference," says Martin May, regional director of Enterasys Networks SA.
