eNetworks supplies all-in-one Linux Internet server

Johannesburg, 28 Oct 2002

eNetworks, the Cape Town-based Internet service provider, is proud to announce the release of the all-in-one Linux Internet server. MD Jonathan Maliepaard says: "This server is awesome. It will firewall, proxy, relay and serve e-mail as well as do all your DNS requirements. Apart from a router, it is all you need to connect to the Internet."

The machine is a low cost Celeron clone, and can be specced with a number of features, including mirrored hard drives, so the machine will continue working in the event of a drive crash.

On the software side there are a number of features. Apart from the basics like firewall, mail, proxy, dns services, the proxy server is configured with basic filtering like MP3 and porn blocks.

Another bonus is a reporting system that generates reports on a daily basis to show where your staff have been surfing.

Maliepaard says: "We have been finding more and more, that employers were assuming that their staff would be responsible regarding Internet access. Once we showed them the logs, they were astounded how much abuse and time-wasting was taking place within the working day. This has led to a more controlled release of surfing access, to those users that really need it."

The best part of this is that the whole system runs on Red Hat Linux, free software. So compared to an installation on other operating systems it will come in at a fraction of the cost.
