EMC storage tool targets NetApp

Storage solution company EMC has unveiled a new solution for the global small and medium enterprise market, reports Cyber Media.

Named VNXe, this platform converges CLARiiON and Celerra - two of EMC's previous storage models - into a single modular hardware architecture.

The company claims VNX has a simple and clean interface that looks more like a business/Web application than a traditional IT management tool and expects to replace its rival company NetApp in the storage sector.

The Times of India reports that the multiple new storage systems and software features also included new unified systems for the midrange, new software for its high-end systems and new disk-based backup and recovery and archiving systems.

“The technologies are part of a multi-billion dollar investment in storage that positions EMC at the intersection of all the major trends that are driving massive information growth, including cloud computing and big data applications,” the company said.

EMC also introduced the new Symmetrix VMAX software technologies that supports up to five million virtual machines, says CRN.

There have also been updates to the Data Domain range of backup and archival solutions.
