EMC has acquired Syncplicity, a provider of cloud-based file management solutions.
Rick Devenuti, president of EMC's Information Intelligence Group, made this announcement at EMC World, in Las Vegas, this week.
Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
According to Devenuti, the acquisition of Syncplicity gives EMC the ability to combine enterprise 'sync and share' capabilities for the cloud with the governance and rigor associated with its Documentum solution.
EMC believes the addition of Syncplicity extends its strategy of enabling the current generation of post-PC users, who want to access, share, collaborate and participate in business processes on their preferred devices.
“As cloud, social and mobile dominate the way work gets done, our customers require more than simple containers for managing and sharing content. With Syncplicity, we will deliver best-in-class solutions for true, extended enterprise collaboration.”
Speaking ahead of the announcement, Joe Tucci, chairman and CEO of EMC, said EMC would continue its aggressive mergers and acquisition strategy.
According to Tucci, EMC spends $2 billion of its annual budget acquiring innovative companies.
